Metal Mesh Cladding as Bird Protection

Due to the fact that the released warmth and the smell from the production area attract birds, which sometimes settle down to nest, the housing of the distillery serves primarily as bird protection. To ensure that no birds come into contact with the distillery, they decided to equip the entire production area with an envelope made of stainless-steel metal mesh. After intensive research and consulting, they decided on a mesh cladding from W.S. Tyler, including a large-format logo painting.

The W.S. Tyler Architectural Mesh DOGLA-TRIO was used for the bird protection, which is suitable for many applications due to its inherent stability and the possible designs with different degrees of transparency. The metal mesh appears optically robust and secure at close range – when viewed from a distance it appears as a delicate fabric.

DOGLA-TRIO 1032 is a stable and robust stainless steel mesh, which is suitable especially for façade claddings. With an open area of 73%, it is transparent enough to ensure sufficient ventilation of the distillery while dense enough to prevent the smallest birds from hatching through. In order to guarantee this, it was necessary to create gaps under, above, and between the individual meshes and fixing points that are smaller than 15 mm. This gap opening dimension must not be exceeded even under wind load, so each individual mesh elements had to be precisely pre-tensioned.

The W.S. Tyler team installed a total of 3,900 m² of DOGLA-TRIO 1032 stainless steel mesh in Åhus.
